America's Secretary of Homeland Security warned that the increasing threat of global cyber attack needs an international security response in a speech at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
Janet Napolitano said that a new generation of security experts is needed: ''In an increasingly networked world, our efforts to combat threats of terrorism rely more than ever on close collaboration with our partners across the globe.
'We are looking to a new generation of security professionals for innovative security strategies to confront a continually evolving array of threats.'
Ms Napolitano was speaking to an audience of LSE staff and students – and sprang a surprise when she revealed that is a former student herself, having spent a term at LSE on an exchange programme in 1978.
This makes her the second successive US Secretary of Homeland Security to study at LSE, following her predecessor Michael Chertoff. Before taking up the post, Ms Napolitano was Governor of Arizona.
