The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment is a research centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
The Institute was established in May 2008, and has been funded by philanthropists Jeremy and Hannelore Grantham, through their Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment|. Vision, purpose and principles
The Institute's vision is a world in which climate change and other global environmental challenges are managed effectively to promote prosperity and well-being.
The purpose of the Institute is:

to increase knowledge and understanding by performing world-class research on climate change and the environment;

to promote better informed decision-making about climate change and the environment by engaging with a wide range of key audiences around the world; and

to educate and train new generations of researchers through our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The Institute's principles are:

Independence: We carry out research and other work without interference from our sponsors and supporters.

Rigour: We base our research findings and views on robust evidence and reasoning, and not on ideology.

Internationalism: We are located in the UK, but we aim to advance understanding and inform decision-making across the world.

Research
The Grantham Research Institute has five research programmes:

Its members and staff use this research to write and engage with relevant articles in the media|, as well as produce publications and papers| and commentary| about climate change and the environment.
Management
The Grantham Research Institute is chaired by Lord Nicholas Stern|, author of the 2006 Stern Review on the Economics and Climate Change.
Its work is directed by a management team and overseen by a management board|.
Partners
The work of the Grantham Research Institute is integrated with the activities of the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy (CCCEP)|, hosted by LSE and the University of Leeds.
The Grantham Research Institute works closely with the Grantham Institute for Climate Change| at Imperial College London, which was launched in February 2007.
The work of both Institutes is overseen by an advisory board.|
