Professors Cox and Westad attend Dahrendorf Symposium

Professors Michael Cox and Odd Arne Westad, Co-Directors of IDEAS, participated in the recently held Dahrendorf Symposium (Nov 9 - 10 2011) at the historic Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften, with Professor Cox acting as co-convener of the Symposium.

The Symposium brought together almost fifty prominent academics and policymakers from across Europe. Participants discussed European democracy, the European social space and European foreign policy. Inevitably, the Symposium was dominated by the current turmoil in the Eurozone. Mario Monti attended a panel on the financial and Euro crisis as an academic - before the weekend was over, however, he emerged as the new President of the Italian Republic.

Professor Cox convened the 'Global Europe' panel, chaired by Sir Michael Arthur; Professor Westad participated as a panellist. A video of the debate is available here|:
