John Collins

CollinsJohnJohn Collins is the programme assistant for the Transatlantic  Relations Programme at LSE IDEAS.

John is a PhD Candidate in the Department of International History at the London School of Economics. His research focuses on Anglo-American relations and international drug control over the period 1939-1964. Specifically, his work seeks to locate the issue of drug control both within the context of evolving Anglo-American relations, and the Cold War more broadly.

Prior to returning to London for his PhD, John spent a year in New York and Washington D.C. working with the Drug Policy Alliance on issues related to U.S. domestic drug policy reform. He is originally from Dublin, Ireland, where he obtained his BA in economics and political science from Trinity College Dublin. He then went on to earn his MSc in the history of empires from the LSE in 2009.

John is a contributing editor for the IDEAS Transatlantic Relations Blog| and has written as an associate blogger for the Global Policy Journal| in the past.

  • John Collins chairs opening lecture by Ethan Nadelmann for 2012 LSE Drug Policy Forum
    Transatlantic Programme Assistant John Collins welcomed Ethan Nadelmann back to the LSE at a Public Event hosted by the LSESU Colombian Society on April 25th 2012. Ethan Nadelmann is the founder and executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance. He was born in New York City and received his BA, JD, and PhD from Harvard, and a master's degree in international relations from the London School of Economics. He spoke on the changing politics surrounding drug policy in Latin America and the growing willingness of regional leaders to challenge the status-quo of the drug war.
