Università di Trento, LSE IDEAS-Cold War Studies Programme, and the European University Institute convened the Fourth Annual European Summer School on Cold War History at the Università di Trento, 5-8 September 2012. The school was held at Villa Madruzzo in the hills overlooking Trento.
The 2012 meeting had panels on public opinion in the East and West, 'Socialist identities', and nuclear arms. Illustrating the broadening of Cold War history and diplomatic history in recent years were papers on the transnational history of dance and the Cold War, EEC/EU economic history, and Indian development of nuclear power.
The best paper prize was awarded to Natalia Telepneva (LSE), for her paper “The First round: the Soviet Union, MPLA and the Congo, 1961-64”.
