The European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies| is a partnership between the WHO Regional Office for Europe, the Governments of Belgium, Finland, Greece, Norway, Spain and Sweden, the Veneto Region of Italy, the European Investment Bank, the Open Society Institute, the World Bank, CRP-Santé Luxembourg, , the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
The Observatory's Secretariat is based in Brussels and it has offices in London (LSE Health and Social Care, LSE and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine) and Berlin (Technical University of Berlin).
Since its set up in 1998 the Observatory has been producing comprehensive reports entitled Health Care in Transition profiles (HiTs) covering countries of western Europe, central and eastern Europe and the central Asian republics. These profiles may be downloaded from the Observatory's website located at www.observatory.dk. In addition to the HiTs, the Observatory has produced a series of comparative studies, published by Open University Press, drawing together evidence on key policy issues concerning hospitals, regulation, pharmaceutical policy and funding health care. Observatory staff based at the LSE Health and Social Care focus mainly on health care systems in western Europe. They also edit and publish the Euro Observer|, a quarterly newsletter focusing on evidence based policy developments in health care.
