Linda Pickard is a Senior Research Fellow at the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at the London School of Economics (LSE). Linda is currently leading a research project funded by the School for Social Care Research (SSCR) entitled 'Overcoming Barriers: Unpaid Care and Employment'.
Linda has, in collaboration with colleagues at the LSE and elsewhere, conducted research on projections of unpaid care in future years in the UK and internationally. Linda has recently produced a report on the supply of unpaid care in Europe, as part of the Assessing Needs of Care in European Nations (ANCIEN) project.
Linda has in the past completed work on policy options for unpaid carers for the Royal Commission on Long Term Care and written reviews for the Audit Commission on the effectiveness of services for unpaid carers and on caring and employment. Linda has also conducted research, using 2001 Census data, on unpaid care and the family for the Office for National Statistics, which was published in Focus on Families.
In addition, Linda has recently completed a doctoral thesis concerned with recent past trends in the provision of intergenerational care for older people by their children. Linda has worked at the LSE since 1996. Linda's original training was in Social & Political Science at Cambridge University and in Sociology at the University of Oxford.
