This lecture forms part of a two day workshop, jointly organised by LSE and the Institute for the Study of the Americas, which will examine youth violence in Latin America from the perspective of gangs, street children and juvenile justice.
Dr Pinheiro is a UN independent expert on violence against children and a distinguished academic. He was formerly Brazilian secretary of state for human rights (with minister status) and a UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar. He is a member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
