The Concept of the Political Party

Date: Thursday 19 May 2009
Time: 6-7.30pm
Venue: Room J116, Cowdray House
Speaker: Dr Jonathan White
Chair: Dr Simon Glendinning

These talks will explore conceptually two central features of modern democracy: public opinion and the political party. Both are widely conceived in terms of the aggregation of units, be it opinions, preferences, interests, or another. In discussion we shall examine some of the presuppositions of such accounts, whether there exist alternatives, and whether these alternatives are recommendable.

Jonathan White is a Lecturer in European Politics at the European Institute, LSE.

This event is free and open to all with no ticket required. Entry is on a first come, first served basis
