Taking Stock of International Security: Launch of SIPRI's 2009 Yearbook on Conflicts, Armaments and Arms Control

At this launch event a presentation on Afghanistan and regional security trends will be given by General Sir David Richards, Commander in Chief of British Land Forces and former Commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (May 2006-Feb 2007). The release of the SIPRI Yearbook is anticipated by the international community for its insight into recent developments in a number of security-related fields: from trends in armed conflicts to world nuclear forces; from military spending to the ban on cluster munitions; from peacekeeping to non-proliferation. Join these leading experts for a lively discussion on current and future directions for global and regional security.

Dr Bates Gill is Director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.General Sir David Richards is currently serving as UK Commander-in-Chief Land Forces, he will take up post as Chief of the General Staff in August 2009.
