Dr Christopher Paul Bircher 1956-2012|

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Dr Christopher Paul Bircher who studied for a Ph.D in the Department of Accounting, which he gained in 1989 under the watchful eye of Anthony Hopwood.  From 1986 to 1989, Paul was a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).  Subsequently, he became a Visiting Assistant Professor at the London Business School, where he had started his doctoral studies, and later he was appointed as a Senior Visiting Fellow at LSE.

New report on performance measurement and management control in non-profit organisations - May 2012|

Dr Matthew Hall| has conducted research with Robert Chenhall and David Smith of Monash University, Australia, for a new Chartered Global Management Accountants| (CGMA) report "Performance Measurement and Management Control in Non-Profit Organisations” . 'Ming, Qing and the beautiful art of balancing books'|

During the Easter vacation Professor Richard Macve visited the School of Accountancy at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics to work on a joint research project on the development of the auditing profession in China; and he also visited the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing.

Diploma in Accounting and Finance

The Diploma in Accounting and Finance is designed for students with little or no previous knowledge of accounting and finance who wish to study these subjects further, or who wish to undertake postgraduate studies in accounting and finance but lack the depth of knowledge necessary to commence masters level study.

MSc Accounting, Organisations and Institutions

|Our intention is that this MSc will attract well-trained students from a wide range of disciplines, including those outside the domain of accounting. It is designed for those who wish to understand more about the multiple roles of accounting, whether they wish to become accountants or not. No prior knowledge of accounting is required.
 
MSc Accounting and Finance
|
This degree leads to a Masters of Science in Accounting and Finance. Students typically take four taught courses, with examinations at the end of the academic year.  
PhD in Accounting
|
The aim of the programme is to train students whose research is of the highest international quality in Accounting broadly conceived. The Department has a very strong research culture that includes an active seminar programme and a programme of distinguished visitors. It also has close links with the Centre for Analysis of Risk and Regulation (CARR).
