LSE Connect is the alumni magazine of the London School of Economics and Political Science. It is published twice a year (June and December) and mailed, free of charge, to nearly 90,000 LSE alumni worldwide.
LSE also offers a full online version of LSE Connect to alumni as an alternative to receiving a paper version. Alumni and other readers can peruse the magazine using an online page-turner as well as watch videos of academics featured in the articles. This option was developed with a view to combating both some of the cost to the environment and some of the cost to the School that the mailing entails.
While mailing a paper copy of the magazine will continue to be the default option for all alumni of the School, alumni who would prefer to read LSE Connect online can opt to receive an email alert each time a new issue goes live via their Houghton Street Online| web account.
The magazine is also read by current and prospective students, current and former staff, visitors and friends of the School.
In this issue:
Looking ahead, academics examine the future for children in the UK’s poorest neighbourhoods, what defines fragile states and why universities should embrace social media. They ask: What matters to the inhabitants of rural Greece? How do you research corruption in India without being drawn in? Why is measuring happiness so important for policy design?
And on a historical note, how did early surgical illustrations transform the art of the surgeon?
Plus a message from LSE Director Judith Rees and all the usual news and activities from the campus and beyond.
