Simona Milio awarded Doctoral Thesis Prize in EU Committee of the Regions competition

Former EI Research Student and current ESOC| Associate Director Simona Milio has taken first place in the Committee of the Regions| 2009 Doctoral Thesis Competition on Local and Regional Authorities in the European Union. Her thesis entitled 'Explaining Differences in regional performance: administrative capacity and political factors' was considered the best out of over 80 theses submitted across Europe.


European Institute recognised as a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence

The LSE European Institute has been designated as a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence by the European Commission. The honour, awarded on the strength of the European Institute's submission on "The idea of Europe: concepts and emerging practices", distinguishes the European Institute as LSE's premier specialist in European integration studies. Along with the recognition, the European Institute has also received a grant to build upon recently established research initiatives.

European Institute staff among contributors to Policy Network 'EU Fit for Purpose' project

A cross-disciplinary range of European Institute Staff have contributed to the Policy Network's An EU "fit for purpose" in the global age – Can we rise to the challenge? |initiative. Devised in response to the numerous global challenges facing the European Union, the project has culminated in a multiple volume namesake synthesis report and an international conference addressed by keynote speaker and President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso.  Papers can be accessed via the EI News Brief.
