Simona Milio awarded Doctoral Thesis Prize in EU Committee of the Regions competition
Former EI Research Student and current ESOC| Associate Director Simona Milio has taken first place in the Committee of the Regions| 2009 Doctoral Thesis Competition on Local and Regional Authorities in the European Union. Her thesis entitled 'Explaining Differences in regional performance: administrative capacity and political factors' was considered the best out of over 80 theses submitted across Europe.
European Institute recognised as a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence
The LSE European Institute has been designated as a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence by the European Commission. The honour, awarded on the strength of the European Institute's submission on "The idea of Europe: concepts and emerging practices", distinguishes the European Institute as LSE's premier specialist in European integration studies. Along with the recognition, the European Institute has also received a grant to build upon recently established research initiatives.
European Institute staff among contributors to Policy Network 'EU Fit for Purpose' project
A cross-disciplinary range of European Institute Staff have contributed to the Policy Network's An EU "fit for purpose" in the global age – Can we rise to the challenge? |initiative. Devised in response to the numerous global challenges facing the European Union, the project has culminated in a multiple volume namesake synthesis report and an international conference addressed by keynote speaker and President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso.
