Visiting Fellows
The Visiting Fellow Scheme is aimed at scholars and persons/practitioners of equivalent standing in an appropriate profession or occupation. It is also aimed at researchers in the early stages of their career.
The European Institute's maximum period of appointment is one year, in the first instance. The appointment carries no emolument.
Persons who are granted Visiting Fellow status can use the LSE Library, and by arrangement with the Senior Common Room Committee, may be admitted to temporary membership of the Senior Common Room. The School is not normally able to offer Visiting Fellows any office space or secretarial assistance.
Visiting Professors
The School may confer the title of Visiting Professor on persons of appropriate distinction whose connections with the School are appropriate to the visiting title. It includes individuals with a non-academic background who may have achieved prominence in public life, or who have attained distinction in the professions.
The European Institute's maximum period of appointment is one year, in the first instance. The appointment carries no emolument.
Persons who are granted Visiting Professor status can use the LSE Library and can become members of the Senior Common Room.
Visiting Staff involvement in research activities
The European Institute likes to integrate all its Visiting Staff. Thus, once appointed, all Visiting Fellows and Professors are encouraged to:

be an active participant at EI research seminars and events. Visiting Fellows are, in particular, expected to attend the Europe@LSE research seminar series and other series relevant to their research;

present at least one paper at one of the European Institute Lunchtime Seminar series;

offer a paper to LEQS, the Europe In Question Series of discussion papers during or shortly after their stay on recently completed research.
Application procedures
The EI and the School considers Visiting Fellow and Visiting Professor nominations several times per year. Please submit your application by the deadlines below:
- 6 October 2011 (Visiting Fellows and Visiting Professors)
- 12 January 2012 (Visiting Fellows and Visiting Professors)
- 26 April 2012 (Visiting Fellows and Visiting Professors)
- 25 June 2012 (Visiting Fellows)
Please allow plenty of time for your application to be considered therefore.

To apply, you will need to submit your CV; a covering letter stating why you are applying and what you hope to achieve during your appointment; and a publications list, where relevant. You will also be asked to assist in the completion of the nomination form.
