We are delighted to announce that the UK team, consisting of Stavros Panageas| (Department of Finance/FMG, LSE) and Samuli Knupfer| (LBS), were victorious in winning the 4nations cup. This latest win continues the UK's success rate as undefeated champions.

Public lecture: The Banker's New Clothes: What's Wrong with Banking and What to do about it|

The past few years have shown that risks in banking can impose significant costs on the economy. Many claim, however, that a safer banking system would require sacrificing lending and economic growth. Anat Admati examines this claim and the narratives used by bankers, politicians, and regulators to rationalize the lack of reform, exposing them as invalid. Admati calls for ambitious reform and outlines specific and highly beneficial steps that can be taken immediately.

Public lecture and panel discussion: Doing Well by Doing Good? Private Equity Investing in Emerging Markets|

The Department of Finance and Abraaj Group (sponsor of the FMG's Abraaj research initiative|) hosted this public event looking at private equity’s role in the transformation of the world economy.

Arif Naqvi (Abraaj Group) gave a keynote speech, followed by a panel discussion where he was joined by Tsega Gebreyses (Satya Capital) and Diana Noble (CDC).

Jon Danielsson (SRC/FMG, LSE) writes this article arguing that heterogeneity is a good thing. It leads to countercyclicality, and thereby reduces instances of procyclical price movements. Both the Basel Committee and the European Banking Authority have indicated that they are troubled by heterogeneity and are seeking to rectify the problem. Their conclusion is plainly wrong.
