Susana is an environmental economist with over 20 years of professional experience. She joined the Department of Geography and Environment in 2008, having previously worked at Imperial College London. Much of her research has sought to develop, test and apply economic techniques to the valuation of a wide range of environmental, health and social impacts related to ecosystem service loss, landscape change, proximity to nature, air and water pollution, climate change, introduction of new energy technologies, and cultural heritage change. More recently, she has undertaken research on the links between subjective well-being and the natural environment. Susana has over 70 scientific publications, including papers in leading journals of her field (J. Environmental Economics & Management, Environmental & Resource Economics, Ecological Economics, Environment & Development Economics, Environment & Planning A, Urban Studies, Energy Policy)and 3 books. She has worked on more than 50 research projects and consultancies for research councils, governments, industry, charities and international organisations. She currently leads the economic analysis work package of Climate for Culture, a large interdisciplinary FP7 EU project, and recently led the economic analysis of cultural services for the UK National Ecosystem Assessment. She is Visiting Reader at Imperial College London, Honorary Senior Fellow at CSERGE (University of East Anglia), a member of Defra's Environmental Economics Academic Panel and co-leader of the Resource Security research stream at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment.
