The School's and the Department's position on equality and diversity:
The Schools seeks to ensure that people are treated equally, regardless of age, disability, nationality, ethnic or national origin, gender, religion, sexual orientation or personal circumstances. The School's determination to do so is guided in part by legislation which is then shaped into school policy and this process has produced Equality Schemes for disability, race and gender. There is a new E & D committee which will provide a strategic direction for E&D work across the School.
The School also takes the issue of discrimination very seriously, and will not tolerate harassment of its students or staff. Both the School and the Government Department provide resources for students and staff who feel they may have been harassed. The Department has an Equal Opportunities Officer, Jonathan Hopkin, with whom anyone can make an appointment to discuss issues of equality. Information on the resources available at the School and Departmental level is accessible online or in student handbooks. There are also an informal and formal complaints procedures for staff and students and I can provide this information on request.
