The Asia Stream of the MSc in Comparative Politics programme allows students to pursue diverse interests in the study of politics in the most populous -- and most politically diverse and dynamic -- region of the world. Courses offered in this stream cover the major countries and sub-regions of Asia and address a diverse range of issues related to political change: state and government, democracy and democratisation, civil society and social movements; the political economy of development; ethnic and religious conflict; nationalism and separatism; local politics and everyday forms of resistance. Course teachers on this stream offer a range of expertise across Asia, in terms of relating general disciplinary theoretical/conceptual issues and area specific knowledge, command of Asian languages, extensive fieldwork, and world-class research and writings on various aspects of Asian politics.

We will not indicate any core course but students should take at least two of the following four half unit courses:
