Introduction
In the BSc Government degree the student is required to take 8 or 9 Government papers, and 3 or 4 outside options, two of the latter are taken in Year 1. Introductory Study in Year 1 is followed by a compulsory range of Year 2 courses leading to more advanced study in Year 3. In the 3rd year of study there is an opportunity to specialise in areas which interest you most, i.e. Comparative Politics, Political Theory or Public Policy. Courses in International Politics are not taught in the Government Department but are available as outside options.
The wide range of Government courses prescribed for study is designed to ensure that all students gain a grasp of the comprehensive character and the complexity involved in the study of politics; while the study of outside options provides insight into the wide context in which the activity of politics is conducted.
