BSc Government & History

Introduction

In the joint degrees students are required to follow a number of requisite courses in the other main subject of the degree. The same principles of progression apply and students must complete prescribed introductory courses in both Government and History before proceeding to advanced courses. Since the student is following two main areas of study, less opportunity will be offered to take as many advanced subjects in any one field as in a single honours degree but the principle of joint study compensates for this, and there is some flexibility in the number of courses to choose from.  The aim of this course is to provide you with a good insight into the interaction between political ideas and institutions on the one hand, and historical developments on the other. The emphasis is largely on the modern period, and a certain element of economic history may be included.
