Newsmax Media and entrepreneurialism in digital media

When: Monday 14 November 12-2pm

Speaker: Christopher Ruddy

Location: Thai Theatre, New Academic Building|, London School of Economics

In 1998 Christopher Ruddy set up Newsmax Media, an online conservative news media organisation in the US, and served as both columnist and editor-in-chief. Thirteen years later, Newsmax.com is the top rated site for conservative news in America - and sixth amongst all newspaper websites - with approximately seven million unique visitors per month. Newsmax also publishes a print magazine with a paid circulation of 230,000, as well as a host of financial and health publications. The company is expected to bring in revenue of approximately $70 million in 2011. In this talk, Mr Ruddy will discuss his experience in setting up Newsmax, and address the possibilities inherent in digital-first journalism for existing news outlets and for the social and web media entrepreneurs of the future.
