PhD scholarships
The Kuwait Programme on Development, Governance and Globalisation in the Gulf States at the London School of Economics and Political Science is pleased to announce two scholarships for full-time PhD students of £12,500 each per annum, renewable for up to three years.
This scholarship, which will be available for an Autumn 2012 start, will be awarded on academic merit. You should have a Master's degree in a political or social science related discipline. You should also have demonstrated research interests in issues of political economy or political science or international relations and a regional focus on the Gulf States. Those with a knowledge of Arabic will have an advantage.
The successful candidates will be those who can contribute to the Kuwait Programme's own research objectives. The selection panel are seeking to support young and very capable researchers who will benefit from the support the Kuwait Programme can offer in developing their proposal into a significant work of research.
Application deadline and procedure
You should submit a CV and research proposal of no longer than two pages A4 by email to Ian Sinclair: i.sinclair@lse.ac.uk|.
The strongest applicants will be selected and interviewed to discuss their proposal in more detail. To take up the scholarship the successful candidate must be accepted onto a PhD Programme at the LSE starting in Autumn 2012.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 15 March 2012. It is expected that shortlisted candidates will be notified in April 2012, with interviews taking place in May 2012.
* Please note the Kuwait Programme only awards the scholarship. The Kuwait Programme is not involved in, or has any control over, PhD applications to the LSE. Applicants for the scholarship are advised to make their PhD application to the LSE as early as possible.
Research fellowship
The Kuwait Programme on Development, Governance and Globalisation in the Gulf States at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) wishes to announce the availability of a short-term Research Fellowship.
This will be based at the LSE, and will last up to three months. The Research Fellowship will enable successful candidates to pursue research into specific projects relevant to the Kuwait Programme. Applications are invited from Gulf states nationals who are post-doctoral fellows and above or practitioners engaged in relevant short or long-term research projects. The successful candidate will have access to research facilities and desk space at the LSE, will receive a return flight to London, accommodation near the LSE and assistance with daily expenses, and be expected to participate in the Kuwait Programme.
The Kuwait Programme is a ten year multidisciplinary global research programme. It focuses on topics such as globalisation and the repositioning of the Gulf States in the global order, capital flows, and patterns of trade; specific challenges facing carbon and resource-rich economic development; diversification, educational and human capital development into post-oil political economies; and the future of regional security structures in the post-Arab Spring environment. Applications are welcome from people working in these areas.
