At LSE, your main support for academic guidance is your academic adviser. There is a range of additional learning support provided by LSE's Teaching and Learning Centre, however, through a series of study advice and personal development events, a Moodle site, one-to-one confidential sessions and several seasonal 'specials' running across the year.
Study advice and personal development
Our study advice and personal development programme, a popular series of open lectures and workshops, continues to the end of the 2011/12 year. Especially if you are studying for the first time in the UK, these events will help you adapt to the new academic environment and the challenges of living in London. See our Development and training| page for details and booking options.
Learning World
A key part of the LSE Teaching and Learning Centre's Moodle site, Learning World| provides online resources for a range of study-related skills, advice from LSE staff and links to other student-centred departments.
One-to-one tutorials
We can offer a limited number of confidential one-to-one appointments with experienced study advisers, in both quantitative and qualitative subjects. Designed to support you in specific areas, typical subjects covered include solving problem sets, structuring written assignments, statistical analysis and getting started with your MSc disseration.
We also have two Royal Literary Fund Fellows, Sarah Salway and Jonathan Gregson, based in the LSE Teaching and Learning Centre. Sarah and John can offer one-to-one sessions on all aspects of academic writing, from planning essay content and scope, structuring arguments, and writing essays and dissertations in a clear, reader-friendly way.
To book a slot with Tony Whelan (quantitative study adviser), Helen Green (qualitative study adviser) or Sarah Salway or Jonathan Gregson (Royal Literary Fund Fellows) call in to Room KSW 5.07 on the 5th floor of 20 Kingsway (opposite the Peacock Theatre entrance), call 020 7852 3627 or email studentsupport@lse.ac.uk|
