We aim to promote the quality of teaching across the School by working directly with staff at all levels. Our work includes:

  • staff development and training;
  • direct consultancy work with individuals and/or departments;
  • funding projects that further innovation in teaching and learning;
  • policy developments in teaching and learning; and
  • producing and disseminating guidance materials and sharing good practice.

LSE and Sciences Po have launched a scheme which gives academics the chance to spend up to three months teaching at the other institution, from the 2012/13 academic year. Development, training and guidance

Our development opportunities range from formal induction programmes for new academics and graduate teaching assistants to networking lunches and one-to-one sessions with Teaching and Learning Centre staff. See what we have for you:

  • Graduate teaching assistants, guest teachers and emeritus teachers: induction programmes, a handbook full of guidance and the opportunity to take one of our accredited teaching qualifications
  • Academics new to LSE and/or teaching: a New Academic Induction Programme and the opportunity to take one of our accredited teaching qualifications
  • Research staff, a special 'researchers' induction' and an academic and professional development programme to help you maximise the impact of your research
  • Established academic staff: specialist support for PhD thesis and MSc dissertation supervisors and a handbook especially for departmental tutors and academic advisers
  • Academic managers: tailored networking opportunities and guidance for Heads of Departments, Directors of Institutes and Research Centres, convenors and other senior acaademic managers

Funding opportunities

The LSE Teaching and Learning Centre funds a wide range of projects that promote innovation in the fields of curriculum design, teaching, learning and assessment, as well as new approaches to student orientation and student skills enhancement.
