Information security is about enabling people to do what they need to in an environment while keeping them safe from threats. This includes ensuring that information and data is kept confidential where it is appropriate, that it doesn't get modified by unauthorised people and that it's available when it needs to be.
To this end, LSE is embarking on strengthening its existing systems to improve the overall safety of the IT Systems, including providing more information to its members.
The following short points should help protect you from identity theft and prevent the loss of your data:
-
Choose a secure password
-
Never give your password to anyone else
-
If using your own, personal machine, use an anti-virus product, even on a Mac. LSE provides Sophos for free, here.
-
Never save sensitive personal data on a USB stick
-
Report information security incidents
-
Where possible, please lock your machine whenever you leave the room. You can do this quickly by pressing Windows Key + L. If this isn't possible, please log off if you intend to leave it unattended for any length of time.

LSE is running an awareness campaign to raise the issues of information security risks.
