1. Use Windows Vista/7 built-in firewall (enabled by default) or install a free third-party firewall like ZoneAlarm

2. Update your anti-virus software to the latest definitions

3. Download and run anti-spyware

5. Configure Windows to download security updates automatically

6. Set a password for your computer -
