Changing your mode of study from full-time to part-time

Students can normally change their mode of attendance only during the first three weeks of a Masters or diploma course. Any change outside of this period is only permitted in exceptional circumstances.

Students wishing to apply to change their mode of study should complete and sign the yellow form entitled "Request to change from full-time to part-time" (PDF)|, (Word)|, also located in the browser wall opposite the counter at the Student Services Centre. Permission is required from the student's supervisor who must also sign the form. The completed form must be returned to the Student Services Centre (SSC).

If your application is successful, you will receive an email confirmation of the change within 3 working days (except during the main registration period in September/October, when it may take longer).

Please note:

  • Students will not be allowed to stay in a hall of residence after changing from full-time to part-time study
  • Students from outside the European Union will most likely have to register on a full-time basis in line with the UK government's immigration rules - see UKCISA (The Council for International Education) for more information
  • Part time students are required to pay an incremental increase in tuition fees from one academic session to the next. Part time fees for each academic session are given in the Table of fees web pages.
