What is it?
Your Certificate of Registration is used to prove registration at the school for current students and are instantly available to current registered students via LSE for You|. Please note that new students can not obtain a Certificate of Registration until after they have registered on their designated Registration| date.
Your certificate of registration contains the following information:
-
Your full name
-
Your student number
-
Your date of birth
-
Your term time address
-
Your permanent home address
-
The title and subject of your course
-
The start and end dates of your course
-
Your registration status
-
The date of your graduation
How do I get one?
-
Log into LSE for You and select the option "Certification and Documentation" and then "Certificate of Registration".
-
Review the information provided and then select the print button. You can not view the Certificate until it has been printed.
-
Check to be certain that the document contains the information you need in the format required. This is especially important if you are applying for a visa to travel out of the UK (such as the Schengen visa), or if you require documentation to open a bank account. See 'Is it the correct document?' below for instructions on what to do if you require this document in a different format.
-
Assuming it meets your needs, bring your printed certificate to the Student Services Centre where a member of staff will validate it with a stamp and their signature. (Be sure to confirm the SSC opening hours first, as hours change during vacation periods.)
You will be unable to obtain a copy of your Certificate of Registration if you have outstanding fees (please email fees@lse.ac.uk| for clarification), if you have not registered properly, or if you have completed your degree (email registry@lse.ac.uk| for assistance).
Is it the correct document?
You should always check that the Certificate of Registration you print yourself from LSE for You contains the information you need. This is especially important if you require a Certificate of Registration for visa application purposes to travel out of the UK or to open a bank account, as the version you can print yourself is not always sufficient. Students who are opening a bank account should review the Bank Accounts website| to learn more about the documents required by local bank branches. When applying for a visa, consult the embassy website of the country which you wish to visit, as every country may require different versions of documentation.
If for any reason you need a certificate with additional information, please email Registry at registry@lse.ac.uk| from your LSE email account to make a request. (Requests should not come from personal email accounts such as gmail, hotmail, or yahoo) Please state your student ID number in the email and explain what additional information you need the document to include. We will normally respond to your request within five working days.
Urgent requests
In exceptional circumstances we may agree to produce a copy of your certificate of registration at a short notice. If your request is urgent, we will require you to provide a proof that you will require it by an upcoming deadline. Otherwise we will not be able to prioritise your request.
Council Tax exemption documentation
Students who require a Certificate of Registration for Council Tax exemption purposes should also review Council Tax and students|.
Proof of past student status
For proof of past student status or degree award, former students must request a transcript. The only exception to this is a certificate that can be provided with specific wording for Greek students for them to give to DOATAP - please email registry@lse.ac.uk| to enquire about this. Please include your student ID number in any correspondence.
