General Course Orientation meeting

An orientation meeting for new General Course students with the General Course Associate Dean will take place on Tuesday 2 October 2012 from 3:30pm to 5pm in the Old Theatre (ground floor of the Old Building).   This session provides information that will help you get the most out of your time at the School.

General Course welcome party

All General Course students are invited to join us for a boat cruise down the Thames on the evening of Tuesday 2 October 2012 from 6pm.  This ice breaker will give students a chance to get to know each other whilst enjoying food, drink, music and the sights of London.  Tickets are FREE and will be distributed at the Orientation Meeting.  Further details of all the social events organised for General Course students can be found on the Social calendar|

Departmental orientation events

Academic departments also hold orientation meetings, some of which are specifically for General Course students.  Please see the Orientation Events Timetable for further details.

School Orientation Presentation

General Course students should also attend their scheduled School Orientation Presentation| session.

Meeting student mentors

All General Course students are allocated a Student Mentor to help them settle in and find out more about LSE from a student perspective.  For more information, see LSE Student Mentoring|.

Study skills

Study Skills sessions open to all LSE students are offered by the Teaching and Learning Centre, covering a range of topics such as writing essays, taking lecture notes, and giving class presentations. The sessions are held on Wednesday afternoons in the New Academic Building with repeat sessions on Friday afternoons. General Course students are strongly encouraged to take full advantage of these sessions. Full details of the programme will be available on the the Teaching and Learning Centre| website with reminder notices emailed to General Course students on a weekly basis.

General Course advice sessions

Mark Hoffman, the Associate Dean for the General Course, would like to meet with each General Course student at least once during your first few weeks at the School.  Accordingly, he will be holding 'drop-in' office hours during Weeks 1 and 2 of the Michaelmas Term at which you are encouraged to ask any questions or share any initial problems you may have.  There is no need to make an appointment to see Mark during this period.  Just come to his office in room OLD 2.02 (second floor of the Old Building).   Check back in July 2012 for further details.
