The Language Centre is involved in a variety of teaching and research projects funded from various sources. A brief overview of each project or section is below with a link to the individual project site or section web page. The LUCIDE project aims to develop policy ideas about how to manage the new and more complex citizen communities. It wants to gather a comprehensive picture of how communication occurs in multilingual/multicultural settings across the EU and beyond. This project has been funded with support from the European Commission.

The aim of the EXPLICS project is to improve language competence of students by preparing models of best-practice in how to exploit Internet case study and simulation templates and by familiarising language teachers with these models. Part of the project was undertaken by the Spanish, Italian and English Team here at the LSE Language Centre.

The Mandarin team have initiated a project to promote Mandarin learning for social sciences. The project aims to support LSE students to produce talk shows in Mandarin in relation to current affairs in today’s world.

The French section is involved in many projects. These include a collaboration with Science Po, digital storytelling and an e-mentoring scheme.

Projects run by the Spanish section include Spanish in Motion, Splash into Spanish, Spanish Speaking Club in Second Life and an exchange project with the University of Valencia.

The Learning Support and Administration Team provide support to all projects within the Centre and are involved in many projects of their own.

Multilingualism has to play a key role in this world where English has greatly facilitated the global impact of the "communications revolution". However, English - even as a lingua franca - also poses key cultural, social and psychological challenges. Read more about the LETPP project here.

Russian Language on the web (RUSLANG) is a multimedia web based language learning resource developed in conjunction with the University of Sussex.
