At each screening the Spanish team elaborate different language activities that can be used in the classroom to prepare students for each screening.
LSE students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the Spanish world beyond the classroom. It benefits students who are already fluent in Spanish, as well as those taking Spanish courses at the Language Centre.
Screenings| are open to the public. The aim is to promote greater understanding of Spanish speaking societies and to outreach to the international community that exists at LSE community and beyond.
2009-10
The three screenings this year focus on a common topic: Domesticating opinion: Propaganda and Censorship.
East of Havana by the Cuban-American film makers Jauretsi Saizarbitoria and Emilia Menocal (82”, 2006, in Spanish with English subtitles)|
This controversial documentary, produced by the actress Charlize Theron, is a close-up on the lives of three young rappers compelled to address their generation’s future from the confines of a Cuban ghetto.
Prototype for a good emigration by the visual artist Josep Maria Martín (Prototipo para una buena emigración, 25", 2005. In Spanish)|
In the documentary, Josep-Maria tells about a project he carried out within InSite_05, an artistic event developed in the complex context between San Diego, USA and Tijuana, Mexico, in the border between the two countries.
Songs for after a war (Canciones para después de una guerra, 102”, 1971, in Spanish with English subtitles) by Basilio Martín Patino|
In this fascinating documentary, the Spanish film director presents a collage of images, voices and songs to tell us about the Spanish Civil War, the post-war and Franco. It is an emotive and playful but implacable portrait of that period.
2008-09
The three screenings this year focus on a common topic: Family and Memory. In each of these films the film makers present a portrait of their respective families which is actually an excuse to show different aspects of the history of their countries of origin: Chile, Spain and Uruguay.

In this black and White film, Carlos R. constructs a fascinating documentary about his parents, which is also a portrait of a whole Spanish generation, those who married “till death do us part”.
