Guide to holdings

The Library has been acquiring archives since 1898 and the Archives Division holds over 1400 archive collections supporting research across the social sciences. We also hold the Library's rare books| and older pamphlets|.

We have created a variety of subject guides to our holdings to give users an introduction to the main relevant sources held by LSE Archives.

The subject based guides on the left menu cover:

  • Finding relevant material on the Archives catalogue
  • Lists of main collections relating to that topic
  • Links to other sources held in the Library

Most of the material listed has not been digitised. For a complete list of documents from LSE Archives that are available online see Online resources|

To give a sense of the range of materials we hold, below are listed last year's most popular collections consulted in the reading room. Clicking on a link will take you to that collection's entry on the Archives catalogue.
