The papers of the Peter Tatchell have been listed as part of the 1967 & All That project|, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which marked the 40th anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act.
The archive of gay and human rights activist Peter Tatchell (1952- ) reflects over 30 years of his campaigning and direct action work. Tatchell continues to be a frequent depositor to the archive, having first donated material in 1992, and makes regular annual deposits of news articles, press releases, correspondence and other papers relating to his work, both as an individual campaigner and as a member of OutRage! Posters from actions and demonstrations are included as well as details of Tatchell's many interviews and speaking engagements.
The 42 boxes of material currently held reflect the breadth and scale of his human rights work, covering both well-known and less well-known campaigns from 1973-2007. The archive reflects most, if not all, gay rights issues since the 1980s, including the age of consent, Section 28 and religious homophobia. Also covered are OutRage!'s outing of bishops and MPs, the Stop Murder Music campaign, Tatchell's citizen's arrest of Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, as well as his involvement in many other aspects of socialist politics, nuclear defence and green issues.
The archive also reflects the more global focus of Tatchell's campaigns in the 2000s, involving protest against human rights abuses in the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe and Caribbean, and his advocacy work with lesbian and gay prisoners and asylum seekers in the UK.
