General Series

Classifications: OF, OW, OX, OY, OZ, R(SR) and Library of Congress series

Description: A collection of books segregated from the general collections at the LSE Library on account of their rarity, value or age (pre-1850). The collection includes interesting early pamphlets, many books from the library of Professor Harold Laski (1893-1950), some association copies, and radical journals. Books are divided into series according to their size and are further arranged by date of publication.

Recent additions to the general series have been assigned a Library of Congress classmark.

Strengths: Economics, statistics, politics, political theory and government, together with British local history and descriptions of foreign countries

Physical Description: c12,000 books, pamphlets and journals

Date Range: 1485-1970 (majority are 1600-1850)

Accruals: Items are added to the series on an irregular basis

Languages: English, German, French, Italian, Latin
