Ebooks

The Library has access to thousands of Ebook titles, which are constantly being added to. Access to these titles can be accessed vias the Library Catalogue using your LSE username and password.

Visitors and alumni may be able to access some resources from the Visitor PCs in the Library.

Finding Ebooks on the Library Catalogue

The easiest way to access Ebooks is to search the Library Catalogue|, just like you would for printed books. If the title is available electronically, you will notice that it is marked 'Electronic' and has no location or classmark. Ebooks have separate catalogue records from printed items.

Ebook providers usually have search/browse facilities for their own Ebook content. As you explore, you should note that you may come across unsubscribed content as we do not necessarily subscribe to all the titles on offer. Please check with the Library| if there is anything you can't access. Here are our major collections:

Library Ebooks and Ebook Readers

Most Library Ebooks can either be viewed online or downloaded as PDFs. Some Ebook readers will be able to open such PDFs, but you'll need to save the file and copy it to the Ebook reader first.

Palgrave Connect ebooks are also available in ePub format.

Ebooks and Copyright

Several Ebook database suppliers have placed restrictions which prevent users downloading, copying or printing chapters or multiple pages from their products. This is largely to stop users infringing copyright. Copyright law in the UK allows you to copy small amounts of a copyright work for non-commercial private study or research under a provision called 'fair dealing'. The law does not specify how much you are allowed to copy, but it is suggested you do not copy more than 10% of a work for these purposes.

Several ebook products have more restrictive licence agreements that institutions have to follow. If you experience any difficulties downloading or printing material from an Ebook then please contact library.enquiries@lse.ac.uk| for further advice.

Google Books

Many digitised books are available via Google Books|. Those out of copyright are often available in full text. Due to copyright restrictions, some books will only have a few chapters available, or may be missing some pages.

You can check to see if books that the Library holds are available on Google Books by clicking on the link in any catalogue record.

Freely Available Ebooks
