European Union

The Library is one of 40 European Documentation Centres| (EDCs) in the UK and is part of a European wide network of information services. EDCs provide access to official publications and documents of the EU to support academic study and research on Europe.

The Library has been an EDC since 1964, and publications have been collected since the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1953.

The collection at LSE includes:

  • Primary (treaties) and secondary legislation (e.g. directives, regulations),
  • Judgments of the European Court of Justice,
  • Official Journal of the European Union (OJ),
  • Commission (COM) documents,
  • Statistical material from Eurostat,
  • Overviews and explanations of policy and reports from the various EU institutions.
