Tracing EU documents and publications

Publications can be traced using the Library Catalogue|. All official EU publciations will be on the first floor in the Inter-governmental Organisations (IGO) collection. 

 

NB. Official Journal contents (Regulations, Directives, etc.) and documents such as COM or SEC documents are not indexed individually on the Library Catalogue. 

Use EUR-Lex, ECLAS and Celex (see below) to trace details of these items.

European Union Policies

  • European Sources Online (LSE staff and students) - an online database which provides access to information on the institutions and activities of the European Union, the countries, regions and other international organisations of Europe. It provides guides to the EU, digests of news and details of new publications or online information.  
  • Policies of the EU - background to all the key policy areas of the EU
  • Enlargement  - the European Commission's website on enlargement. 
  • Treaty of Lisbon - the official documents.

EU legal databases

  • EUR-Lex  the daily updated portal to legal and judicial materials of the EU. Since 2004, the contents of Celex (see below) is included.  It includes the full text of the Official Journal from 1998 and all legislation, case law, proposals, white and green papers.
  • Summaries of legislation Background information on EU policies. 
  • CELEX via justis (LSE staff and students only)
    - archive of legal and judicial materials including legislation proposals for legislation, Court judgments, etc. since 1952. Content should now be on EUR-Lex. Use your LSE network username and password to access.

Tracing the progress of legislative proposals

  • OEIL, The Legislative Observatory - European Parliament's database monitors the legislative process. Use to trace the progress of directives or regulations.
  • Pre-Lex - database on inter-institutional procedures follows the major stages of the decision-making process between the Commission and the other institutions and provides links to documents.

EU non-legal databases

  • ECLAS European Commission's Library catalogue - useful for tracing bibliographic details 
  • CORDIS Information on Community research programmes
  • EU Who is who online directory of the EU
  • RAPID European Commission's database of press releases 
  • Tenders Electronic Daily (TED) - public procurement notices of the last 5 years published in the Supplement to the Official Journal of the EU (S series). The Library holds the S series since 1975 - email Library.Enquiries for access.
