Members of the public doing private, non-commercial research may apply for reference access to the Library on production of the necessary proof of address and ID. You are classed as a member of the public if you are not studying at a SCONUL University. You can check your institutions status here.

To apply for membership, you will need to provide proof of address and personal ID:
Acceptable proof of address (must be less than 3 months old):

Utility Bill (Gas, Electricity, Telephone, Water)

Bank/Building Society Statement (must be statement or letter referring to account)

Visa/Mastercard Credit Card Statement

Mobile phone bill

Council tax bill/council tax payment book
We do not accept medical cards, tenancy agreements, or confirmation on unheaded paper.

You will recieve a confirmation email from our team. Please be aware that it can take up to 5 working days to process your application, but in most cases we are able to issue Library Reference permits on the same day as your registration.
