You can renew your books online from the Library catalogue|.   Login using your normal LSE id and password and you will see a n option for 'Your loans and renewals'.

If this does not work, see Why couldn’t I renew my books online|?

You can also phone the renewals number on 020 7955 7229 which is staffed from 9a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours we will do our best to answer the phone during opening hours but you may need to be patient.

Why couldn’t I renew my books online?

There are two common reasons why the Library catalogue won’t allow you to renew your books automatically:

  1. if a book has been reserved (sometimes we say it has a hold placed on it) by someone else you will not be able to renew it. As this is always a possibility we ask that you try to renew your books in plenty of time to be able to bring them back if they are required by another user.
  2. if you have an outstanding fine the system will not allow you to renew your books. This will be true if any of the books you have are overdue, so do please try to renew them in plenty of time.

If you need staff help with renewals please call 020 7955 7229

What is my PIN number?

Your PIN (Personal Identification Number) number is a four-digit security number. It helps you to use certain functions on the Library’s classic catalogue |like checking how many books you have out, or renewing your books online. For security reasons under the Data Protection Act we cannot tell you what your PIN number is over the phone - you must come into the Library with your Library card.
