Understanding Library Zones
There have been some changes to study spaces recently with the introduction of zoning within the Library. The Library now has 3 clearly marked coloured zonal areas which allow Library users to work in the way that suits them best.
-
Red areas are the Silent Zones and are located on the Ground, 1st, 3rd and 4th floors. These are silent areas and users must remain completely quiet at all times. Group work and phone conversations cannot be carried out here.
-
Yellow areas are the Quiet Zones and are located on the 1st and 2nd floors. In these areas users may have quiet conversations and the general rule on mobile phone usage applies meaning quiet, non-disruptive mobile phone usage is allowed. However mobile phones must be switched to silent at all times.
-
Green areas are the Group Zones and are located on the Lower Ground Floor. These areas are suitable for group working and discussion. The general rule on mobile phone usage applies here meaning quiet, non-disruptive mobile phone usage is allowed. However mobile phones must be switched to silent at all times. There are also study rooms available if you want to work with your group somewhere a little more privately.
Look out for the coloured banners on each floor indicating what Zone is on there
Changes to Library rules
Some of the Library's rules on noise, drinking and study spaces have also changed. These rule changes are a 1 year pilot and will be reviewed at the end of this time. The changes can be summarised below:
-
Soft and hot drinks may now be consumed in the Library as long as they are in non-spill containers, cartons, cans or bottles
-
Food still cannot be consumed anywhere other than the escape areas, outside of the Library turnstiles
-
Alcohol still cannot be consumed anywhere on the Library premises
-
Mobile phones may be used in all areas except the red Silent Zones , however ringers should be set to silent in all zones.
