The majority of the Library's collections are available on open access . However there are certain collections which due to either their unique nature, size or rarity are located in on-site closed access storage e.g. LSE PhD theses. Items that are stored in this way are indentified on our catalogue – there is a an icon displayed at the bottom of the relevant records, that say's 'Fetch'.
Library users are able to order material for consultation from closed access storage by searching for the relevant items and clicking on the Fetch icon. They will then be directed to fill in the online order form - Library users may place up to six fetch requests at a time.
Library staff carry out fetches from the closed access storage areas daily at the following times: *9: 30am, 11: 30am, 1: 30pm, 3: 30pm and *5: 30pm. *weekdays only.
The requested items can then be collected from the service counter at least 30 minutes after the allotted fetch time and will be held there until the end of the day (or the date specified).
All items requested are for use on a reference only basis within the Library and must be returned to the Service Counter before it closes at 8pm, Monday - Friday (6pm at weekends and on certain Bank holidays).
Please note: If for any reason the online request system is not operating, material can still be obtained by filling in paper request forms at the Service counter.
