Copyright Law

To comply with copyright law, users of the service are required to indicate if the material they are requesting is for commercial or non-commercial purposes.  The IDD team| are happy to advise further.

Below are some guidelines on the issue:

Commercial Requests

The term commercial refers to that which is directly or indirectly income generating. For example, if you are making a request for an article for research on a project that is funded by an organisation or intended for publication or to use your research for direct or indirect financial gain, you must declare that you are making a commercial request.

Non Commercial Requests

A non-commercial request would be defined as an item required for an individuals private research or study that is unrelated to any commercial venture.  Your intention must be unambiguously non-commercial. This would include any research and development within the university that is not related in any way to a commercial gain or profit to any organisation or individual.

Copyright Limits

Users are allowed to request one article per journal issue.  If you need to request more than this then we will attempt to obtain a loan of the item for you to read.  There are very few libraries that are willing to lend journals and the most recent issues are often subject to a loan ban.
