Placing an IDD request

How many requests can I make?

Interlending and Document Delivery (IDD) services are available on the following basis for LSE users:

  • LSE staff (10 per week)
  • Research students (10 per week)
  • Taught masters students (4 per week)
  • Undergraduates (1 per week)

What does it cost?

No charge is made for items supplied on loan.  All articles are subject to a 10p charge upon collection in order to comply with Copyright law.  

Before placing a request

Firstly, please check that you cannot obtain the item via other means i.e. Electronic Resources, University of London Libraries catalogues| and the British Library at St Pancras.  

Users should be aware that:

  • Requests cannot be made to items that are currently on loan to another Library user
  • Requests for material that is missing from the Library shelves can be made but are subject to a shelf check by IDD staff prior to it being requested from another library

How to place an interlibrary loan request

  • Go to the Library catalogue and log-in
  • Click on the Request and Interlending button and select the appropriate form for the item you are requesting. 
  • Enter full details of book and journal titles, author details and page numbers where appropriate.  Providing the ISBN or ISSN of the item helps with the search process
  • If you know the source of reference then please put it in the verified field.  When materials are found on the internet, please put the address of the page as this will help us with the verification process
  • To gain access to UK doctoral theses please go to the EThOS website and follow the instructions for registering and searching.  To request a theses where payment is required please place a request using the "Requests and inter-lending" tab on the Library Catalogue and selecting the "ILL UK theses" form.

How long will it take to obtain my request?

We aim to obtain journal articles within 7 working days and books within 14 days.  This only applies to material available within the United Kingdom and does not include weekends.
