Google Scholar
Before you start your search you will need to change the display options in order to be able to download references
-
In Google Scholar click on Scholar Preferences
-
Scroll down the Preferences window to the Bibliographic Manager section and check the Show links to import citations box
-
At this point select the RefMan option. This is the correct option. The EndNote option does not work correctly.
-
Click on the Save Preferences button
-
Now when you search in Google Scholar you will see an Import into RefMan link after each result-click on this link to download the reference
-
A File Dialog box will open-choose the open option and then select Open with Endnote.exe
-
Your Reference will be added into your chosen Library.
Google Scholar-problems
The information downloaded from Google Scholar is very limited. Abstracts, keywords or other extra information which you will find on bibliographic databases are not included. Links to the websites or to the pdfs of articles are also not included.
You can only download one reference at a time, instead of downloading large numbers of results.
You will also need to check your results as they do not map to the correct Endnote fields.
You may like to use our online databases available via the Electronic Resources Pages instead-downloading from these will give you fuller information in EndNote, allow you to download large batches of results and will also enable you to use their advanced search features, set search alerts etc.
Our pages on online databases| and online journals| give full details about downloading references from online resources into EndNote
