Some styles, such as law styles, require your information to be entered as footnotes rather than using the Harvard method of citation|
If you have chosen a footnote reference system for your document all your citations will be in footnote form and you should choose a bibliographic style suitable for footnotes such as MLA or Chicago 15th A. You can insert footnote references in the same way as inserting in-text citations - EndNote recognises the footnote location and adjusts the reference format accordingly.
To insert references in footnotes first apply the bibliographic style required to the EndNote library from which the references will be taken, then:
-
Create an empty footnote in Word and place the cursor in the footnote.
-
From the Endnote ribbon select Find Citation(s). The EndNote Find Citations box will open
-
In the Search for box enter the author of the work you wish to cite, or a keyword. Matching references will be displayed
-
Select the reference(s) required
-
Click on Insert. The citation(s) will be inserted in the footnote according to the style selected and a bibliography started at the end of the document.
Footnotes can appear in one of three ways, depending on which bibliographic style you are using:
-
The same as an in-text citation (in this case the use of in-text citations is preferred to footnotes)
-
The same as the bibliography
-
A specific format for footnotes which will differ from the format of the bibliography
Some footnote styles will include a bibliography in addition to footnotes
