Recreating your Endnote Library from the Data folder

If you have accidentally deleted your EndNote library then it can be recreated using one of the files automatically stored in the .data folder and the Notepad program

  1. Locate the .data folder which was associated with the EndNote library e.g. for a library called research.enl the .data folder is called research.data
  2. Open Notepad via Start, Programs, Accessories and click on File, Save As. Change the Save As Type option to 'All Files'
  3. Save a new blank Notepad file with the name of your library followed by .ENL e.g. research.enl in the same location as the .DATA folder
  4. Close Notepad and open EndNote.
  5. Click on File, Open, Open Library
  6. Select the e.g. research.enl file you have created in Notepad and your references should appear
