Endnote X4 creates a .data folder for each library. This happens automatically and you must not delete this folder.
What is stored in this folder?
Endnote uses the .data folder to store any term lists or images used in your library. Even if you are not using these features you must not delete the .data folder
The .data folder can also help you recreate a library if you have deleted it in error
What about libraries created in earlier versions of Endnote?
Endnote will automatically create a .data folder the first time you open your library in Endnote X4-any term lists will now be stored in this folder
I have renamed my library
If you have renamed your library then you should also rename your .data folder
I can't see a data folder for my library
Endnote will automatically create a .data folder for your library when you open it in Endnote-you do not need to create one yourself
I have accidentally deleted my data folder
Endnote will automatically create a .data folder for your library the next time you open it in Endnote
I see an error message when I try and open my library
If your .data library has been deleted you may see the following error message when you try and open your Endnote library
"Database Error: Please verify that no other user has this library open simultaneously with write access."
If you see this error, then close your Endnote library and the Endnote program.
Then reopen Endnote-when you reopen your library Endnote should automatically create a new .data folder
