Import and search pdf references
X4 enables you to automatically import reference details from pdfs in your filespace. Note this feature is reliant on the correct information or metadata being available in the pdf to begin with. This information is most usually present in DOI pdfs from e-journal publishers. You'll notice that the pdf is automatically attached to your reference.
Automatic hyperlinks in Word
Citations are now automatically hyperlinked to their place in the bibliography
Trash & Deleted references
This feature was new in X3. References are not immediately deleted from the program. Any deleted references now reside in the trash bin until you close your library when you are giving the option to delte them.
Quick Edit
New quick edit tab in the main Endnote window allows you to make edits to a reference without opening it in a full screen
New bibliographic styles
Each release of the software brings extra styles. X4 includes the updated APA 6th edition bibliographic style
Endnote is now supplied with over 4500 styles. Because this is a very large file it can impact on the performance of the software, so we have opted for the standard 264 which are available quickly. If you need a style which is not listed then you can download it from Endnote's site|
The Endnote Toolbar in Word
The Endnote toolbar in Word now looks slightly different to refelct the changes in Word -icons have been redesigned slightly to make them clearer. It appears as Endnote X4 along the top where you would find other options normally associated with Word such as File.
Smart Groups
This feature allows you to create groups quickly from your records using a specific set of search terms. It will automatically add any additional records that you add to your library to the group if they meet the set criteria.
