Endnote X4
Endnote X4 (in fact the 14th version of Endnote, but pronounced Ex-Four) is available on all Windows 7 build PCs in the School. XP machines will have an older version.
Endnote X4 has several new features which you may like to use. The Windows 7 staff upgrade is currently being rolled out across the School which include Endnote X4
The Library's classes on using Endnote will use Endnote X4.
Endnote X4 is now available via the Remote Desk Top| Service.

I am a staff member with version 9.01 or X1-should I upgrade?
There are various benefits to upgrading to version X4 Ask your Academic Support Team about upgrading your PC to the new build.
Will my Endnote 9 and X1 files open in X4?
Yes. Endnote 9 and X1 files are fully compatible with version X4-you do not need to convert them first.
Can I move files between versions?
Yes. Endnote 9 and X1 files are fully compatible with version X4. If you use any of the new reference types in X4 then these will transfer into version 9 or X1 as the generic reference type, and you may wish to change these.
I am a staff member with version 9.01 or X1.01-should I upgrade?
There are various benefits to upgrading to version X4. This will be done as part of the roll-out of the staff build. This will be done during the course of the academic year
I am about to get an upgrade-do I need to save my files?
If you have created your own endnote styles, filters or connections then you should make sure that these have been saved to your H space and are not stored on your C drive.
You should also make sure that your Endnote Libraries and any documents that you have created using Endnote with word are stored in your H space and not your C drive
Will my Endnote 9.01 or X1.01 files open in Endnote X4?
Yes you can open your files in Endnote 9 or X1.01. The first time you open a library a prompt will appear asking if you wish to convert your file-click on Ok and your file will be converted.
Note that once you have converted your file you will not be able to open it in previous versions of Endnote
I created my own bibliographic style-can I use this in Version X4?
Yes you will be able to use it
Can I have more than one version of Endnote on my PC/laptop?
No-previous versions must be uninstalled-having more than one version on the same PC can cause conflicts
I have an older version on my laptop. Should I upgrade?
This is dependent on whether you have Microsoft Office 2010. If the answer is yes then you must upgrade to Endnote X4 as older versions of Endnote will not work with Office 2010.
