Theses

  • Library Catalogue - only LSE PhD and MPhil theses are held.
  • Index to theses - UK and Irish PhD theses (abstracts only).
  • Dissertations and Theses  - USA and Canadian PhD theses. Has abstracts and a 24 - page preview for recent ones. 
  • EThOS - UK theses. Some will be freely available immediately, others can be ordered.
  • The Library's Delicious account has a number of theses portals stored in it

For ordering UK theses, search EThOS first.  If the digitised version is available or can be done for no charge then proceed.  Where there is a charge being made please contact library.idd@lse.ac.uk| who will advise you of the process. 
For overseas theses use the 'Requests and Interlending' tab
on the Library Catalogue| and select the 'ILL Foreign theses request (NON LSE)' option. 

Data Library

  • The Data Library contains a wide range of data and statistics from across the globe. Access is usually available online but in some cases only available from specific machines in the Library itself. All resources can be found via the Data Library webpages.
  • There is a Moodle course called the Library Companion for Data Users that will help you locate resources.
  • The Data Librarian is available to assist with any queries you may have about finding data or using individual resources.
  • A selection of statistical web resources are available via our Delicious account.

Internet resources

A number of freely available resources for Government are available via the Library's Delicious| account:

  • EUROPP | European Politics and Policy
    The blog is run by members of the LSE Public Policy Group (PPG), which is part of the LSE Department of Government. Its aim is to "increase the public understanding of social science in the contexts of European governance and policy making, both at the European Union level and at the level of countries across Europe and within its neighbourhood. Our focus is broad-based and multidisciplinary, covering European governance, economics, politics, culture and society,both at the European Union and national levels."
  • Margaret Thatcher Foundation online papers
    As mentioned in the press recently, the Foundation has released online private papers http://www.margaretthatcher.org/archive/1981cac4.asp from former Conservative Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, from 1981 which include coverage of private discussion with Rupert Murdoch about his bid to buy the Times newspaper. The website also contains biographical information plus numerous online speeches and quotes. http://www.margaretthatcher.org/speeches/default.asp
  • Czech and Slovak Digital Parliamentary Library
    This is aiming to create an online library of Debates, Bills, Resolutions, Materials of committees From 1848 onwards. Encompassing these bodies. Austrian Constituent Imperial Diet 1848-1849 (Wien, Kromeriz) Diet of the Czech Kingdom 1861-1913; National Assembly of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic 1918-1968, Diet of the Slovak Republic 1939-1945, Slovak National Council 1944-1960, Czech National Council 1969-1992, Resolutions of the presidium of the Slovak National Council 1970-1987, Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Czechoslovak Federal Republic (Chamber of the People and Chamber of Nations) 1969-1992, Parliament of the Czech Republic (Chamber of Deputies and Senate) 1993-2003, National Council of the Slovak Republic 1993-2003
  • US Census bureau historical voting publications
    Locate some interesting statistical data on US national and presidential elections. Voting and Registration data has been collected biennially in theCurrent Population Survey (CPS) since 1964. Data includes: Reported Voting and Registration by Race, Hispanic Origin, Sex, and Age Groups: November 1964 to 2010. Also really useful is the U.S. House of Representatives, Office of the Clerk: The Clerk of the House collects and publishes the official vote counts for federal elections from the various states and territories.   • Stream Congress
    A tool from watchdog, the Sunlight foundation that combines in one web based application Tweets, YouTube videos and floor updates from members of Congress, making them into a single customized news feed. Instructions given on the website. Note usage requires Google Chrome to be installed.
